Book review : The Trouble with Henry and Zoe - Andy Jones

I've just got back from a fortnight in Lanzarote (which is why there are so many book reviews on my blog at the moment !) and if there's one thing as compulsory as sun cream when you're lazing on a sunlounger by the pool, it's some well-written, feel-good chicklit. The Trouble with Henry and Zoe by Andy Jones fit the bill perfectly -  if I'm honest, I was slightly surprised to see that it was written by a man when I came to write the review because the overwhelming majority of women's fiction is written by female authors, but Andy Jones taps into the vein masterfully, creating a romantic, heartwarming novel with a dose of realism that doesn't become overly schmaltzy.

At the start of the book, Henry and Zoe are both in humdrum, unsatisfactory relationships that offer stability but are also stunting their personal growth and fulfillment. Would making a clean break make them happier though?

Sometimes life works in funny ways and they both get to find out, when different turns of events (that I won't tell you about to avoid spoiling the drama) set them both on a path to a different future. Will that future end up bringing them together or leading them apart though?

It's a tenderly written novel that is by turns poignant and heartwarming with totally believable characters and events. Henry and Zoe are imperfect but appealing people who could create perfection together (or, at least, that's what we're all rooting for as the story unfolds). The sad moments will have you surreptitiously wiping away a tear or two from the corner of your eye, but it is an ultimately uplifting story that shows that everyone gets a second chance at finding their happy ending.
