"The Collection" - a new global-interest, multi-language "Appazine" app from Ringier

Those clever people at Ringier have come up with a new style of iPad application, that they're calling an "appazine" - which I guess is a combination of app(lication) and magazine - that will be a monthly look at what's been going on in the world. And what's so new about that, I hear you sneer ? Well, quite a lot actually ! It's an app with real global appeal - the official blurb says that it's "a monthly “appazine” exploring globally relevant topics which will excite and challenge top-tier audiences ". ." Top-tier huh ? I guess that means no sleazy kiss-and-tells or totally exaggerated sensationalised stories, which is a relief.
But the content is not the only thing to "excite and challenge" me. It's the first app to be simultaneously published in English, German and Chinese . It would be great to see French and Spanish added to that list to give it true international appeal but I think that's a great idea.
Content-wise, I've been having a look at some sample pages and I have to say it's pretty good. Have a guess - what do you think the biggest global-appeal story of the moment is ? Well, yes, Ben Laden but this was probably put together before then so it's the Royal Wedding. Now I actually sat down and watched the whole thing, as well as the highlights several times, and I still found it interesting to see what they covered.
A quick look around the cathedral ...

An amusing look at how sporty William is ...

A lovely flashback to the baby photos of Princess Diana and newborn Wills ...

Obviously, just from looking at the photos, you can't see how interactive it all is but you can click around all over the place to bring up new content and it's really quite entertaining, not to mention addictive. (Well, it would be if I had an iPad to play on anyway !) The creator promises a "highly intuitive User-Navigation system" and it does look easy to find your way around. Without getting too bogged down in the techie-speak, Ringier explain : "Based on a completely new Made in Switzerland Content Management System, the technology will allow for a very dynamic and intuitive navigation within the app. The experience will guarantee surprises at every swipe, tap or rub of the tablet screen."

Oh there's just one more thing I have to tell you - it's totally free ! :)
